MYSO Visits the Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Updated: Apr 28, 2020

The Amtrak train pulled away from the station in Jackson on Memorial Day, May 27, 2019 and the adventure began. A group of 30 MYSO musicians and parents embarked on a five-day tour of Chicago, IL that included museums, parks, lakefront, rivers, restaurants, architecture, attractions, and music!

There were many highlights of the trip but the peak was certainly the attendance at the renowned Chicago Symphony Orchestra which performed the music of Rossini, Ravel, and Stravinsky. A bonus performance by The Joffrey Ballet capped the elegant evening.

The Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra believes that travel and performance enrich the musical experience, builds confidence, enhances cultural sensitivity, and inspires opportunities to connect with different types of people and audiences across the country and world. Thus we strive to provide and reward our musicians and families with an end-of-the-season trip.

Over the years MYSO has traveled to some incredible locations including Dallas, TX, Washington, D.C., Beijing, China, Orlando, FL, New Orleans, LA, several locations in Costa Rica, and San Antonio, TX. Each of these trips was a memorable experience forever etched into the minds of our families.
