Camila Patino

Violin / Viola

​

Maria Camila Patiño is a passionate educator with over 12 years of teaching experience. She founded the strings program at Hinds County School District and now teaches and manages outreach programs with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. She also conducted for the Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra, directs programming for the Premier Orchestral Institute, and maintains a thriving private violin and viola studio.

​

Originally from Ibagué, Colombia, Ms. Patiño began playing at age four and went on to earn both her Bachelor’s in Viola Performance and Master’s in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Southern Mississippi. While she performs with several regional symphonies, her greatest joy is helping students grow as musicians and share in the love of music.

Kim Scarbrough - KS Music

Kim Scarbrough has been a professional music educator for over 30 years, teaching in public school, private school, and home school settings. Kim is a member of the Music Teachers National Association, the Mississippi Music Teachers Association and the Music Forum of Jackson.  

 

Kim received her degree in Music Education from the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music (Wheaton, Illinois), where she studied flute, piano, and voice.

 

Kim is at her best when she is leading students in the creation of memorable musical experiences – from a performance of favorite scenes and songs from Les Miserables, to worship and folk/bluegrass ensembles, to her new favorite –the MYSO Woodwind Ensemble!

Davan Sagara

Trumpet 

​

Davan Sagara joined the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra as Principal Trumpet in 2024. A native of Pearl City, Hawaii, he studied at the Eastman School of Music, earning degrees in Trumpet Performance, Music Education, and Mathematics, along with the Performer’s Certificate and Sidney Mear Award. His performance career includes appearances at Carnegie Hall, with the Kamuela Philharmonic, and in recitals across the country.

​

Equally dedicated to teaching, Davan works with students of all ages through private lessons, school programs, and clinics. He is passionate about helping young musicians grow in both skill and confidence, sharing the same love of music that first inspired him at age 10.

Outside of music, Davan enjoys surfing, exploring the outdoors, and fixing things he’s managed to break.

Emily Williams - Violin Studio

Violin / Viola

Emily holds a Master’s Degree in Violin Performance and has studied String Pedagogy, the science of teaching strings. She is the author of The Beginning Violinist: A Companion Book for Children and Adults, which accompanies her specialized teaching method.

 

Her method has received international recognition from prominent online teacher Zlata Brouwer and Arco Strings Magazine. With over 20 years of teaching experience, Emily works with students of all ages and levels.
